There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that contains numerous luxuries on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
