There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino betting is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that features numerous comforts accompanying the gambling den, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
